Pictures

This image is captured from a helicopter or drone above the city of pripyat. Looking at the snow on the ground we can see it was taken in the winter on a cloudy day. In the picture, you can see some of the iconic Soviet housing blocks and other various utility buildings scattered around as well.

This image is a close up look at one of the iconic Soviet housing blocks. Each balcony seen would belong to one of the many Soviet families who may have worked at the power plant or elsewhere in the city. On the top of the housing block, you can see the insignia of the Soviet Union, a relic of the past still standing strong.

This iconic picture has been around in many forms for a long time, you may have even seen it before. This is the abandoned carnival grounds in Pripyat. The park was set to open May 1st for a traditional May festival, but it was interuppted by the Chernobyl disatser on April 27th. Not a single person got to ride the ferris wheel, or any other rides.

This image may just looks like a random metal structure to the untrained eye but it is so much more interesting. This was a top secret Soviet missile detection radar array. That means it detected the launch of nuclear missiles from the U.S. or other countries. It was located just outside Chernobyl and still stands there to this day.

After the disaster the Soviets used all manner of machines and vehicles to fight the fire that insued after the explosion. These vehicles included whatever they had on hand at the time, from military APC's and helicopters to civilian vehicles as well. Here they sit, rusting and radioactive, and someday they will disappear in the overgrown forest that now blankets some of the city.
